Seth Jewell served in the Revolutionary War and was awarded a pension.
He is listed in the DAR Patriots Index as serving from New Jersey. I
have his complete service and pension records from the NationalArchives
and became a member of DAR based on my application of line of descent
from him. I compiled a family history of my line which is titled "
Sarah Anna Jewell and Rodolphus P. Clawson; their ancestors,descendants
& related families."
In the 1790 Pennsylvania census, Seth is shown as head of household
residing in Washington County.
15 November 1819, aged 59, Seth applied for his Revolutionary War
Pension from Greene County Pennsylvania. His brother Jonathan Jewell
and Moses Jewell (relationship not stated but presumend to be abrother
also) both signed statements verifying his application, this also from
Greene County Pennsylvania. On 1 March 1821, aged 61, Seth reappliedfor
his pension from Venango County, Pennsylvania.
The census for the year 1800, Morris Twp., Greene, Co. Pennsylvanialists Seth
as head of household with the following: Males: two under 10, two 10-16, one
26-45. Females: one under 10, one 10-15, one 26-45, one over 45.
The Pennsylvania census for the years 1810 and 1820 show Seth a headof
household in Vanango County, Frenchcreek Twp.
Seth is shown on the property tax rolls of Venango Co, Pennsylvaniafrom
the year 1808 thru 1835.
Although he was taxed for land from 1833-1835 there seems to beevidence
that he had left Pennsylvania by 1833 along with several of hischildren
and their families.
In 1838 Seth sells the last of his land in Pennsylvania. The records
show that he was in Wayne County, Ohio at that time. The next recordis
recorded at Mercer County, Ohio on 18 September 1839 at which time he
applies for his pension payment and states his residence as Van Wert
County, Ohio and that he has resided there 5 months and prior to that
resided in Wayne County, Ohio.
The "Polk Centennial Book" 1986 states that Seth also resided in Stark
County, Ohio.
