On October 12, 1998 Matthew Shepard died as a result of being beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in Wyoming. The chaplain at Trinity College had some interesting observations on the incident.

On September 30, 1997 the U.S. Catholic bishops issued a statement advising parents of gay children to put love and support for their sons and daughters before church doctrine that condemns homosexual activity.

On July 22, 1997 a friend of mine sent a letter about the Southern Baptist Disney Boycott to USA Weekend in response to their poll. His point is well taken, and well worth reading.

On February 20, 1996 Iowa Representative Ed Fallon addressed the Iowa House on HF 2183, which was a bill to ban same-sex marriages. The text of his speech is interesting reading. The bill died in committee on March 22. It will probably come up again next year.
