An inventory of the greater Portland area's public parks, as conducted by reading at least one chapter of the Bible in each of them

Ongoing Efforts

As time has gone on, more parks in the Portland area have opened up. Furthermore, I have found parks that previously I was unable to access due to various reasons or problems at the time of my visit. This list compiles these ongoing efforts, from 2007 onward.

  1. Name of Park: Cooper Mountain Nature Park
Location: SW Kemmer Road, at approximately junction with 182nd Avenue
Owner: Mixture of Metro regional government and Tualatin Hills Parks & Recreation
    Chapter(s) Read: Psalms 73
Notes: No safe way to get here by transit, due to manners of drivers in area, and naoor roads. Some sidewalks to exist, and possibly an obscure route through neighborhoods could be found. Park opened in early 2009. Visited in mid-July of that year. Parking lot was completely full, so obviously other people feel the same as I do about trying to walk to this place. Park consists of preserved wild environment, including Oak Savanna and some forest land. Many benches, plus small playground at summit, and very nice but compact nature center. This Psalm is a prayer and in some ways praise for justice provided by God even in terrible situations.

  2. Name of Park: Lovejoy Park
Location: approximately SW 2nd & College Street, but no public streets go there - only walkways
    Owner: City of Portland Parks
    Chapter(s) Read: Jeremiah 29
Notes: I think I overlooked this one before due to there not being a city of Portland parks sign in it. Arrived on bus route #35, and walked from several blocks away. There is a Portland streetcar station that is somewhat closer. Park has fountain, which has been turned off for quite some time, and a considerable concrete expanse. There are a few trees scattered through the park. Visited halfway through May, and would not want to be in this concrete expanse during a very hot day. Prophet Jeremiah talks of plans of God to prosper his people, and not destroy them, but those whose plans seek injustice will be dealt with harshly.

  3. Name of Park: unnamed plaza with fountain
    Location: NE Grand & Multnomah
Owner: Current building owner appears to be Kaizer Permanente, but historically this was the Port of Portland building
    Chapter(s) Read: Psalm 83
Notes: Walked from bus route #6, and departed on MAX. The wide spot in the sidewalk has a fairly nice fountain, with parts of the wall at bench height. This Psalm is a prayer against enemies of the people of God and those who rebel against God would be shamed and know God.
