An inventory of the greater Portland area's public parks, as conducted by reading at least one chapter of the Bible in each of them2nd Third of 2004
- Name of Park: Donald L. Robertson
Location: Wood Village
Owner: Wood Village
Chapter(s) Read: 2 Corinthians 1, 2
Notes: Arrived and departed on bus route 77. Park does not open until 8 am. Has good playground, picnic tables in the shade of trees, exercise trial, games field. Unfortunately, it appears that the tenis courts have been converted to a parking area. In these chapters, it becomes clear that we are conduct ourselves in the world by living by God's grace, and acting as conduits for grace, not by any attempt at knowledge.
- Name of Park: Heddie Nots Park
Location: Strawberry Lane, just south of the Johnson City line
Owner: ?
Chapter(s) Read: Psalm 150
Notes: Walked from Riverside Park, departed on bus route 79. I was unable to find the true entrance to this park. However, considering the busy nature of Stawberry Lane, it is prbably best for the children that there is a fence between the park and the road for the entire distance. There is a playground and a huge open field that looks like it would be good for various games. This simple praise to the Lord shows that all things made can be used as an instrument of praise. There is nothing that separates, say, Zulu instruments from a pipe organ, or even those instruments used in voodoo worship - the issue is in how those instruments are being used, not in what they are. There is, I think, a slight extension that can be drawn here between how we choose to use our own lives.
- Name of Park: Riverside Park
Location: North side of Clackamas River
Owner: Clackamas River Water District
Chapter(s) Read: Matthew 6
Notes: Walked from bus route 79. Has baseball field and some minor picnic facilities. Also has boat dock on Clackamas River. No traffic noise other than what is generated by park traffic itself. A little noise from the HVAC systems on Safeway warehouses nearby, but not too loud or irritating. In this chapter, Christ attacks the lifestyle of trying to impress others. This is not just the first section of the chapter, but also the section on worrying about what to wear and other material possessions: must of our worry in daily life, particularly when it comes to what to wear, is based on living to please others.
